Installation view, The Ultimate Vessel, Koppe Astner, Glasgow
For the exhibition The Ultimate Vessel, Koppe Astner invited artists to make a vessel with no guidelines other than that the object had to hold a flower. The idea for the show was inspired by Magali Reus and Matthew Smith – two artists that both coincidently made impromptu vessels in their studios. The exhibition was accompanied by a text written by the artist Simon Fujiwara. The ending reads, ‘How can a flower speak alone when the vessel speaks for it? And, given the chance to speak, what would these flowers and these vessels say about our lost and lonely world?’
